‘Ugly Betty’ Star Arrested In Florida

Eric Mabius, known for his role in the beloved TV series “Ugly Betty,” found himself in a bit of legal trouble recently.

On Thursday morning, the actor was apprehended in Florida on charges of battery. This arrest came as quite a shock to many fans who remember him fondly as the charming Daniel Meade from the hit series.

At 53 years old, Mabius now faces two misdemeanor charges, namely, battery and resisting an officer without violence. He was booked at the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center shortly before the early morning hours.

In his arrest photo, Mabius looked markedly different from his TV persona. His mugshot shows him with a dazed expression, a cut, and a prominent bruise below his right eye.

Dressed in a standard prison jumpsuit, the image presents a stark contrast to the polished character he portrayed on screen.

Eric Mabius rose to fame back in 2006 when he was cast as the handsome yet initially superficial editor-in-chief of MODE magazine in “Ugly Betty.”

Acting alongside America Ferrera, Mabius won audiences over as his character evolved significantly over the show’s four seasons. Many viewers appreciated the series because it not only entertained but also showcased personal growth and redemption.

Following “Ugly Betty,” Mabius continued to carve a niche for himself in the world of television. He appeared in numerous Hallmark Channel productions, including the “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” series. In this, he played Oliver O’Toole, a diligent postal detective committed to ensuring that lost letters meet their rightful receivers. Additionally, Mabius made appearances on popular television shows like “Chicago Fire,” “Scandal,” and “Blue Bloods,” which broadened his fan base.

Over the years, Mabius has become recognizable for his versatility as an actor, moving seamlessly from indie films and horror projects to romantic comedies and serious dramas. Despite generally maintaining a low profile in the bustling world of Hollywood, he has enjoyed a steady career filled with diverse roles in both television and cinema.

In his personal life, Eric Mabius was married to Ivy Sherman, from 2006 until they parted ways in 2018. Together, they have two sons, who are now young men at the ages of 18 and 16. After his separation, Mabius stepped back into the world of dating and, as of 2024, revealed he was seeing someone new. However, he has opted to keep his new partner’s identity private for now.
