Story: Indian warrior decided to change his name

A Native American warrior decided one day that he had finally had enough of his very long name.

So he went to the Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages to have it officially changed.

When he arrived, he walked up to the counter, where a polite lady greeted him.

“Good morning, sir. How can I help you today?”

He nodded respectfully and said, “Hello, miss. I would like to change my name, if it is possible.”

“Of course,” she replied. “People change their names all the time. But may I ask why you want to do that?”

The warrior sighed deeply.

“Well,” he said, “my name is Sharp Arrow Flying Across the Field at Great Speed Hitting the Bison and the Bison Falls Down Dead.”

The lady stared at him for a moment, trying not to look surprised.

He continued, “As you can see, it is much too long. I am tired of saying it every time someone asks my name. I would like to change it to something shorter.”

The lady nodded. “I understand completely, sir. So what name would you like to change it to?”

The warrior looked at her seriously, took a breath, and made a quick sound with his mouth:

“Pew.”
