Shakira Hospitalized & Canceled Her Concert In Lima

Shakira, the 48-year-old global music icon, had to cancel her much-anticipated concert in Lima, Peru, following a sudden health scare involving an “abdominal issue.”

Fans were informed of the situation when Shakira made a heartfelt post on her X account on Sunday, February 16. She expressed regret about the unexpected turn of events related to her health.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” she explained.

The statement continued to convey the doctors’ advice, insisting she wasn’t yet fit enough to take to the stage that evening.

Shakira added that she hoped for a swift recovery, allowing her to release from the hospital and return to her performance schedule soon. The team behind her tour is diligently working to reschedule the Lima concert, ensuring fans will not miss out on the opportunity to see her live.

Her message concluded with a warm thank you to all her fans for their understanding and support during this challenging time.

The concert, scheduled to be held at Estadio Nacional in Lima on February 16, now hangs in the balance with hopes of rescheduling soon. Shakira also has another show lined up at the same venue for February 17, intended to continue her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour across South America, with subsequent performances planned in Colombia, her homeland, before hitting North America later in the year.

This health incident comes hot on the heels of her major win at the Grammy Awards just two weeks earlier, where Shakira took home the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album with ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’.

Fresh off her successful night at the 2025 Grammys, Shakira resumed her whirlwind tour, taking her magnetic performances to numerous countries in South America. She aims to bring this tour to the United States in the approaching months of May and June.

A brief look at her impressive journey begins with Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll’s birth on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. Shakira, as she’s widely known, has always been linked with music. Her journey started young, writing songs by age eight, and she managed to ink a recording contract by 13.

Despite initially modest album releases, her fortunes changed exponentially with ‘Pies Descalzos’ in 1995 and ‘Dónde Están los Ladrones?’ in 1998, helping her secure her place as a leading Latin music marvel.

Her skillful crossover into the English music scene with her album ‘Laundry Service’ (2001), which spawned hits like “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothes,” propelled her to international stardom. Shakira continued to dominate charts globally with successive albums like ‘Fijación Oral, Vol. 1’ and ‘Oral Fixation, Vol. 2’ (2005), ‘She Wolf’ (2009), and ‘El Dorado’ (2017).

Renowned for her distinctive voice, energetic belly dancing, and captivating stage presence, Shakira’s diverse talents have led her to sell over 80 million records worldwide.

Besides her prolific music career, Shakira is also devoted to philanthropy. She founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, focused on providing educational resources to disadvantaged children in Colombia. Moreover, she’s graced many significant stages, including performing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
