McConnell Whines About J6, Hasn’t Spoken with Trump in ‘Quite a While’

In an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky discussed his strained relationship with former President Donald Trump and his disapproval of the January 6 Capitol riot.

McConnell revealed that he and Trump have not spoken in a while, expressing anger over the events of January 6. He held Trump “practically and morally responsible” for provoking the attack, calling it an “insurrection.”

McConnell also criticized Trump’s decision to pardon nearly 1,500 individuals involved in the riot. Tensions between McConnell and Trump supporters have escalated, especially after McConnell voted against Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.

McConnell’s changing stance reflects a broader fracture in the GOP as it faces internal struggles over its future direction. Despite stepping down from his leadership role, McConnell remains a powerful figure influencing the Senate and party dynamics as the 2026 elections approach
